They have such a nostalgic, old-Japan charm to them, but you really don't see them much anymore. Honestly, I'd never seen one in person myself \u2014 until I stumbled across one at my husband's family home in Hokkaido!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"topic03\">\uff11\uff0d\uff12\uff0eMosquito Coils \u2014 <em>Katori-senk\u014d<\/em> (\u868a\u53d6\u308a\u7dda\u9999)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While the pig-shaped holders have mostly disappeared, the coils themselves are still very much in use. The modern mosquito coil actually traces its design back to 1890, and today you'll find all sorts of variations \u2014 long-burning versions, ones formulated for forest and mountain use, and milder, gentler-scented options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are mainly an outdoor product \u2014 great for camping or working outside. My husband and I spend half our summer at his family's rural home in Hokkaido, and mosquito coils are simply non-negotiable there. With products like these, a single spray treats the whole room: the chemical settles onto the walls and keeps mosquitoes out of the space entirely.
